Coming up

I was sorrly disappointed that no one had the comparitive essay to hand in- This is below standard work!  What we have coming up is to work with Photoshop and then we will start working in Flash:  hopefully we can create a computer game that takes place around the school.  We'll see...

Those of you who have been working and you know who you are- keep it up!  As for the others- let's get it going!

Homework- blog response

Respond to two (2) of the following three question sets to be handed the first day back from Exam Week.  The work is due Tuesday at 12:00.

Christof
We've become tired of watching actors give us phony emotions, bored with pyrotechnics and special effects.
While the world he inhabits is counterfeit, there's nothing fake about Truman himself.  No scripts, no cue cards.  It's not always Shakespeare but it's genuine.

  1. Have we reached this point in our "entertainment experience"; where we are tired of the fake and need the "real"?
  2. With films like Avatar- using completely created characters, 3D animation, CGI, etc.- is there a point where we, like Truman, can no longer believe the created reality?
  3. Is Truman's whole world fake or is it real?  Is What Christof says above true or is he just justifying the world he has created?

Happy New Year!

Well looking for ward to coming back and getting some more work done!

There's an anti-smoking video that we'll be doing, also wrapping up the Cooking show- which needs some special treatment- Looking to Carmelo or Matt T to get some of that done.

Meanwhile we will continue working on the writting that needs to be done to get us to the end of year exam!

Hope all is well and see you starting Monday!

Cooking Show News

Congratulations WE'VE MADE SALSA!!

I was very proud when the shooting wrapped up at the end of the day on Friday.

Except for Sallazzo and Labbe dropping from the shoot, everybody stuck together and we finished the shooting.  The next stage will be EDITING the footage down to 2-5 minutes (this is the hardest part)!

Last Week and Coming Up

Last Week:  We started the book The Collected Works of Billy the Kid.  A while the reading was a bit "flat"- I think we'll turn this into a "Story telling" unit- verbally telling a story around in a circle; recreating the cowboys sitting around a fire after the work was done.

Coming Up:  We are going to start the Storytelling Unit.  Everyone will have to tell a story.  We will start with stories that at first are familiar to us, but eventually we will tell stories of things that are possibly less familiar to us.  The idea here is to be able to "jump start" the imagination as quickly as possible.  Concepts that we'll look at: character, climax, "punch line", delivery, and body language.

Homework

Post a media image on your blog and write a little about it telling me why it has an impact

Week in Review

Media :  here we had looked at "Jamie's Kitchen" and looking at the ways that a cooking show is put together.  We have formed groups; 4 per group- each will rotate taking on different roles (Chef, Sous Chef, Taster, and producer- the guy that runs around and makes sure everything is ready to hand).  Filming looks like it can still start on the next day 4- though we might also go to Pius to take a look at their cooking school/kitchen, but it would be good to do a quick run through to see what we may need for the show.

English:  We have been looking at the Outlaw and Western genre; with themes of outlaw, death, justice, fame and the western conventions.  We are looking at the movie Young Guns for the depiction of Billy the Kid; there are a couple of othr movies that I would like to bring in to check out how they show the Billy character.  After this we are going to start to take a look at the book The Collected Works of Billy the Kid by Michael Ondaatje.
